Street Fighter 6 will Change The World
Why I think Street Fighter will breathe life into gaming.
Street Fighter 6 has the potential to completely shake up the gaming world.
Back in 1991, Street Fighter 2 had an unexpected cosmic shift on the entire industry. It revolutionized the fighting game genre and is the mother of all fighting games (including Mortal Kombat) that preceded it.
Every iteration of Street Fighter has caused minor and major rips and tears in the cultural fabric — from movies to tv shows, to spin-offs and crossovers, to fashion and nostalgia. We covered some of the impacts of fighting games on greater culture in our Arcadism series.
And while Street Fighter has definitely led the fighting game community in competitive play, the last few iterations of the series have yet to truly capture that 90s magic that Street Fighter Third Strike or even Street Fighter 2 managed to make their trademark attribute.
Street Fighter 4 had a very playful, animated, and somewhat traditional feel with its paint-brush effects.
Street Fighter 5 took a more modern/esports approach with it’s sleek design and glassy aesthetic.
Now, Street Fighter 6 brings us back to the late 90s with a Street-Wear, Street Culture-inspired frame:
With SF6 we have a bit of SF4 (paint brush/graffiti),
a bit of SFV (esports look/futuristic UI)
and a theme of Hip-Hop/trance house groove (Street Fighter 3rd Strike/Tekken Tag 1).
There have been a ton of Street Fighter 6-related news the past few days. We’ve seen Guile and Chun Li among several other World Warriors in action — it really looks like Capcom has learned from the older installments in the series and they are doing everything they know works from the last 3 Street Fighter games.
Street Fighter @StreetFighterShow your attitude with the Game Face Feature in #StreetFighter6 by pressing directional buttons during the versus screen. Scowl at your opponent, act all smug, or confuse them with a mixture of rapid emotions! 🎭 https://t.co/TeNl2pTAbd https://t.co/n15Dj50vlZ
I’ve never seen the fighting game community so hype about a game in mass like this in a very long time. The hype from Street Fighter 6 is sure to remind everyone why they fell in love with the series all those years ago.
Fighting games need more flavor and Street Fighter doesn’t seem to be pulling any punches. All the characters so far are larger than life, expressive, and exciting. This game makes me feel the way Tekken 3 did in 1997.
