Goodbye Sega...
"SEGA" Arcades in Japan to be replaced
Tokyo is the iconic hub for arcade gaming. If you’ve been lucky enough to visit Akihabara, you’ll have fond memories of going into the Sega arcade towers to play the endless coin-operated classics.
This year, SEGA will reportedly replace all arcade locations with the name “GIGO” following a new acquisition. Gigo stands for “Get into the Gaming Oasis”
Translation:
SEGA" withdraws from the game center business. The word "SEGA" disappears from the store name acquisition of shares, the brand name will be gradually renewed to "GiGO". The policy is to target stores nationwide. "GiGO" comes from the abbreviation "Get into the Gaming Oasis"

The name of the venues will be renewed starting March 2022
It will take about a year for all locations to complete the name change

In conclusion: Despite some people thinking that the arcades and gaming centers will be dissolved this year— that’s not the case. Things will change for Arcades, but we’re still optimistic for the future of arcades and the creative artists and business people innovating in the space.
See you soon…
